Many skaters claim that the world is their canvas and their skateboard is their brush, but this adds a literal claim to that metaphor.

Sector 9 has also stepped up to help our brothers in Japan.  The Rise Up! Disaster Relief Tee is available for a steal of a price ($20), with all the proceeds going to Japan.  I’m about to buy mine now!

Randal Trucks stepping up big time.  If you’re in the market for new trucks, or even if you aren’t, go ahead and get some of the classic 50º 180mm Japanese Earthquake Relief Truck.  Not only do you get a great truck, you support a great cause.

Skateboarding is at a crossroads right now; there is more money to be made than ever before and consequently higher stakes.  Tony is quite an inspiration on how to love what you do and to capitalize on it while still maintaining your dignity.  Check out this video and tell me if you agree.

Check out the bottom left corner.  I gotta say that after working at a skate shop I’ve seen this first hand.  Street skating has plateau’d hardcore, and longboarding’s blowing up.  Because of this, local law enforcement needs to reconsider the laws governing the use of skateboards.

Fresh news on the front page of Silverfish Longboarding today.  Looks like BoarderX is making it’s way over to California this weekend.  After watching the video below I’ve always wanted to try it, as it combines downhill, slalom, and transition.  An event of this magnitude is extremely difficult to do without road closure, so it goes to show that a good relationship between skaters, their city, and their law enforcement is extremely important.  If you like this, see if you can get it done in your neck of the woods.

Bridging the Gap: The “Shortboard”/”Longboard” Divide

Carlos racing at the Waterford DH Outlaw. He took 2nd place at his first DH race ever.

Southeast Michigan local favorite Carlos Danel shreds harder than anyone in the area.  He’s taught me all sorts of stuff about skateboarding in general and is always fun to skate with.  He’s always got good things to say too.  Check out what this street skater turned longboarder turned skateboarder has to say about it all.

One Reporter’s Opinion

My good buddy and hallmate Sam is a freelance journalist here at Michigan State.  Here’s a stream of conscious narrative on an outsiders few of longboarding.  It’s really a great read.
